A travel journal is the easiest way to save your travel memories before they fade: the dish you still think about, the street you got lost in, the person who gave you directions. This guide shows how the journal in the ToTourist app works, step by step, so you can keep notes, photos and places from every trip in one place on your phone.
Why keep a travel journal
After a few trips, the details blend together: which café had the view, which day it rained, what the hotel was called. A few lines written on the day are worth more than hundreds of photos you never sort.
In the ToTourist journal you can:
- write notes with a title, your own text, a mood and a place name
- attach up to 10 photos from your gallery to an entry
- save places you find in Nearby
- keep AI plans and hidden-gem ideas from the AI planner
- link entries to a trip and filter them by type
- export the journal as a PDF to keep or share
There is no account and no sign-up: your journal and photos stay on your phone.
1. Write a note about your day
Open the Journal (from the home screen, or from a trip’s page) and tap New note. A note has:
- Title – for example “First day in Rome” (the only required field)
- What happened? – your own text, as short or as long as you like
- Mood – one of five faces, from delighted to angry
- Place – optional, for example “Rome, Trastevere”
Tip: two or three sentences a day are enough. Write what surprised you, what you ate and what made you laugh – those are the details you will want to read again later.
2. Add photos
Tap the camera tile in the note to pick photos from your gallery – up to 10 per entry. The app copies them into its own folder, so the entry keeps its pictures even if you tidy up your camera roll later. The journal list shows the first photo of each entry as its cover.
3. Save places you discover
When you look around with Nearby – sights, restaurants, cafés, pharmacies and more around you – you can save a place to your journal. It is stored as a “Saved place” with its name and address, and the entry has an Open on the map link, so you can find that little restaurant again on your next visit.
4. Keep your AI plans and hidden gems
If you use the AI planner, you can save the plan it writes, or any of its hidden-gem suggestions, to the journal. They appear as “AI plan” and “Hidden place” entries next to your own notes, so ideas and memories live together.
5. Find entries by trip and type
Entries are listed newest first. Filter buttons at the top show All, Notes, Places, Plans or Hidden places. When you open the journal from a trip’s page, you see only that trip’s entries, and new notes you write there belong to the trip.
Any entry can be opened, edited or deleted later – fix a typo, add a photo you forgot, or finish a note on the flight home.
6. Export your journal as a PDF
Tap PDF to turn the entries you are looking at into a PDF – each with its date, place, text and first photo – and share it or save it wherever you like. Filter to one trip first and you get a small travel book of that journey.
Pair the journal with “Been there”
The journal holds the stories; Been there shows the places you visited on a map and a globe, with how many countries and cities you have seen.
Start your travel journal
Your memories deserve more than a forgotten camera roll. On your next trip, write one short note a day and add a photo or two. ToTourist is free on Google Play for Android, in English and Hungarian.
