Want to track the countries and cities you have visited and see them on a globe? “Been there” in the ToTourist app does exactly that: you add the places you have been, say how you liked each one, and the app shows them on a map or a 3D globe with simple statistics. Here is how it works.
It is not a tracker: the app does not follow your location in the background. A place is added only when you add it.
Where to find it
Open the Memories tab at the bottom of the app. The screen is called Places I’ve been: a map at the top, your statistics and your list of places below it.
Two ways to add a place
- I’m here now – the app uses your phone’s location (with your permission) to find the city you are in, and you confirm it.
- Other place – choose a city from the app’s built-in city list, for trips you took years ago.
For each place you also pick the day you were there and how it was. Nothing is saved until the city, the day and the rating are all set.
Three ratings that tell your story
- Loved it – places you would happily return to
- It was fine – okay, not more
- Didn’t like it – places you did not connect with
Filter buttons above the list show all places or only one rating, each with its count – so you can see at a glance how many places you loved. Changed your mind? Tap a place in the list to change its rating, show it on the map or remove it.
Map or globe
Switch between Map and Globe at the top. The 3D globe works offline and shows your places as pins on a satellite image of the Earth; if you zoom in closer than the image allows, a button takes you to the detailed street map at the same spot. A button in the corner makes the map bigger.
Your travel statistics
Under the map you see how many countries and cities you have visited and what share of the world’s countries that is (the app counts 195: the 193 UN member states plus the 2 observer states). Every new place updates the numbers straight away.
Your data stays on your phone
There is no account and no sign-up. Your places are stored on your phone only.
Add the stories too
“Been there” shows where you went; the ToTourist travel journal keeps what happened there, with notes and photos.
Start your map
Open the Memories tab, add the last few cities you visited, and watch your globe fill up. Get ToTourist free on Google Play (Android, English and Hungarian).
